Firstly, our aim is to show users/ visitors that the island exists… and to paint a picture of life on the island… this wonderful rich self sustainable ecosystem. We aim to do this by making the visitor ‘the warden’…A Day/week/ year in the life of Flatholm island Warden. To do this, they need to interact (passively and actively) with the data physicalisation in order to monitor the gulls, shellduck, moths, butterflies and slow worms etc.
Secondly, we need to make the visitor care about the island and its future. We aim to do this by showing the current carbon emissions (cars been driven into Cardiff today) , temperature rises (air quality?) and plastic levels ( the amount of plastic being recycled or not today) in Cardiff and show how these could have an impact on the island in 10, 20, 30 or 40 years etc. This will be on the reverse side of the above stand.
